How it All Started

The group Railroad Creek now consists of 5 teenage friends who travel all over playing bluegrass gospel music together. Today they fill auditoriums, stages, and acres of fields with the sweet sounds of the banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, bass, and their tight harmony. But it didn't start out that way. In the year of 2003 Malachi, Seth, Trevor, Heather and Trent decided that they wanted to start playing music together. It didn't take long after asking their much supportive parents for them all to have instruments of some sort. Seth and Heather were one of the first ones to get the instruments that they play now, with Seth on mandolin and Heather on bass. That Christmas Trevor had gotten a $9.99 dollar guitar and Trent had gotten an electric keyboard. Not to long after Christmas of 2004 Malachi, Trent and Trevor's cousin, discovered that he wanted to try the autoharp. Well, needless to say, they decided that the piano and autoharp had to go and was shortly replaced with a banjo and a fiddle. During their first practice it sounded like, well like a bunch of kids playing instruments that they have only had for a few short months, but there was something there. In the year of 2004 all of the group at one point in time throughout the year started to take lessons from a very close personal friend of the group's Mr. Jerry Johnston. Mr. Jerry's talents rubbed off on the group immediately and after taking lessons for few months Seth, the groups mandolin player, started giving lessons which was just evidence of the Lord working through them. As the years continued everyone grew and improved on their own instruments. Along with playing Heather, Seth, and Trent began to realize that together they had what they considered to be a driving, bluegrass vocal tone thus beginning their distinct sound that they carry today. On August 25, 2004 Railroad Creek performed their first gig at the Home of Grace in Vancleave, MS. Although they had only been playing together for a short time and weren't quite professionals the people at the Home of Grace where extremely supportive. From then on, it continued to grow and their stage performance and shows just got better and better. Since then God has been blessing this group with their talents and ability to write songs, and play their instruments at a level that most people that have been playing that long have not reached. As time progressed Heather decided that she wanted to start playing the banjo, so in the year of 2004 she picked it up and today is the State Banjo Champion. Malachi is the multi-talented one who has mastered the art of playing just about everything in one show. Recently Seth has started making his own mandolins under the guidance of Railroad Creek sponsor and fan Mr. Tom Goree, who also is the maker of just about everything that they play. Trevor plays guitar and even though they have yet to get him to sing they have managed to get him to talk trough a song, which is a start. Trent plays the fiddle and has also been known to do a little Irish clogging which adds a little unique something to their show. All the members of the group are such close friends that no matter where they go  and with all  of them bringing something to the table they seem to have to good time. They all act like they are brothers and sisters. In closing thanks to all of those that support us, care for us, and love us but number one we want to thank the Lord God for always being there and blessing us so much.
